I'm looking for some suggestions to help troubleshoot connectivity for a game that's somewhat notorious for group play connectivity problems - Ghost Recon Wildlands. On my home network with OpenBSD router and miniupnpd running, I am able to get limited co-op connectivity but the game still reports that I have "restricted NAT". Very interestingly, I recently noticed that when I played this same game at a different location where the home router is just a stock ISP-provided home wifi modem/router, the game successfully reported "open NAT", and this has me absolutely puzzled as to what the difference could be.
The "working" network has upnp enabled on the router, but sadly, the modem/router provides no diagnostic information as to what holes have been with upnp. I tried using the miniupnp-client to gather some more diagnostic info but the client reported it could not find a upnp gateway (though there definitely is one which seems to be working). On my home network (the "not working" one) I am able to confirm that the game is opening firewall holes via upnp, but alas still considers the network "restricted NAT".
Given that I have full admin access to two different working/not-working networks, can anyone offer some troubleshooting advice that might help me diagnose the problem with this game? My level of understanding of upnp, and the related tools, is quite limited, but I have been running my own home router on OpenBSD for 20+ years.
