Hi,

I'm having a problem with UPnPC in the discovery phase.

The way I'm using it is as follows:

1. When my software starts up it uses upnpDiscover() to find available IGDs.
2. If it finds one it creates the port forward rule using UPNP_AddPortMapping()
3. When the software shuts down it "cleans up" by removing the port mapping.

Some of the time it seems to work fine. But, regularly the router stops responding to the discovery signals (using upnpDiscover()).

It stays this way until either I reset the router. Restarting my software doesn't help either. This also happens with another router I tested on.

This sounds like it is a problem with the router, but I just wanted to check that I wasn't doing anything wrong, especially in step 3 (might it be better to just create the mapping and leave it there "forever"?).

Has anyone had any experience of routers stopping responding to the discovery?

Is there anything I can do to fix this?

The first router I tried this on is "Livebox" (Orange) (made by Inventel). Firmware version is "v5.10".

Regards,

John

Good question.

Can you recommend another tool I can use to try this out?

I've been looking for such a thing for a while Smile

http://noeld.com/programs.asp?cat=dstools#UPnPTest

You can also use P2P programs such as utorrent.

FYI, I used the test tool and also a bittorrent client.

Both reported the same problem so it looks like an issue with my router.

Thanks,

John
