Is it wise to periodically check if port still mapped?

do we trust the lease time and just renew the lease before it expires, or is it better to periodically ping the router to double check the port is still mapped?

If it is better to periodically ping the router, how long is a good time between pings?

Last question, similarly to the port mapping question, after via upnp or NAT we discovered the external IP address, should we periodically check to make sure the external IP has not change ?
