Hi, I'm using miniupnpd on openwrt. Its working well.

Is it possible to tell miniupnpd to delete a portforwarding entry? If not, is it safe to manually delete using iptables? I presume not because the lease file will not be synchronized with iptables.

well you can use the DeletePortMapping method...
miniupnpd also features "unused rules cleaning" see clean_ruleset_threshold/clean_ruleset_interval options
